Admission to the LMP SURE program is not considered competitive. All students who meet eligibility criteria and have matched with a LMP faculty member will be admitted. Applicants will be notified by email.

There are several competitive undergraduate summer student awards available. Beginning this year, the Temerty Faculty of Medicine has centralized the application process for these scholarships. While LMP will no longer handle the scholarship applications, it will continue to review candidates and select the award recipients.
UROP, RHSE USRS and UTEA Awards:
A separate application is needed from the student/supervisor. Please apply directly on the TFoM SumRAMS scholarship application portal.

PROGRAM INFORMATION:
In order to participate in the LMP SURE Program, you must:
a) Have at least a B (cGPA of 3.0) average in an undergraduate program;
b) Be registered in a full-time undergraduate program in the academic term immediately prior to the SURE program and expect to return to full-time graduate or undergraduate studies at the end of the research program;
c) Secure a LMP supervisor before applying;
d) Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or international student located in Canada with valid student visa.
Current 4th year and beyond students who are completing their undergraduate program requirements in April are only eligible if they have applied and expect to return to full-time studies at the end of the summer research program (e.g., medical, dental, graduate or undergraduate, etc studies).

PROGRAM EXPECTATION:
To take part in the program, you must be able to:
a) Be available to work in a laboratory for a minimum of 12 weeks full-time research, beginning no earlier than May 4, 2026 and ending no later than Aug 28, 2026 (dates to be determined between you and your supervisor).
b) attend the orientation session on May 11, 2026;
c) participate in the LMP SURE Program Research Day on August 7, 2026.
How often you are expected to be in the lab is something you will have to discuss and decide with your supervisor. There is no set schedule and your lab hours are dependent on the expectation of the supervisor, project needs, and workload to complete the project.

STIPEND:
All students receive a minimum $7,140 stipend provided either by the Supervisor or a combination of external awards and the Supervisor. Research based at hospitals/institutes is subject to the payroll policies of that hospital/institute.
Students without award (12-weeks)- $7,140 supervisor's contribution
Students with UROP/LMP SURE Early Award (12-weeks)- $3,000 award plus $4,140 supervisor's contribution ($7,140 total)
Students with RHSE USRS (12-weeks)- $2,500 award plus $4,640 supervisor's contribution ($7,140 total)
Students with NSERC USRA (16-weeks)- $6,000 NSERC plus $3,298 supervisor's contribution ($9,298 total)
Students with UTEA (14-weeks)- $5,250 from University of Toronto plus $2,886 supervisor's contribution ($8,136 total)
