LMP 2347H: Economics of Healthcare

Course description:
This module is intended to introduce students to several real-life health economics challenges from various (clinical, academic, policy, and private) healthcare organizations in Toronto (parent organizations). The module will be guided by the principles of the experiential/integrative/problem- based learning (PBL), a student-centered approach in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving real-life/open-ended problems. The students will closely interact with the representatives from the parent organizations to explore the pipeline of value-based decision making and to find solutions to the proposed challenges. During this course, the students will learn the key health economics concepts used in decision making and policy framing as a way to help them understand how societies make choices about health and healthcare funding.

Qualifications:
Masters degree with equivalent professional and/or academic experience is preferred.

Duties:
Preparation and delivery of seminar and workshop content including the creation of courseware; the development, administration and assessment of assignments; workshop facilitation; teaching administration; and maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours, supervision of day-to-day work of project groups.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
